A French woman drinks makgeolli in Korea after losing her income, then teaches French to two Korean women. Super typical Hong Sang-soo plot. But this time, director Hong has turned the means into ends and returned to the alienation and closeness of people. There are many factors, and language has become the main means of processing and application. Huppert’s appearance adds a layer of portrayal of strangers to the film, without discussing the people themselves acting as cultural invaders. Can the communication problems caused by language barriers effectively reveal people’s identities? Repetition and substitution are Hong Sang-soo’s tricks, but they are also our lives. Because of this development, director Hong still likes to express his feelings directly. Discuss this inevitable struggle for subjectivity. Director Hong’s humor still works, just watch and see.
