I’ve seen EVERY classic – too many to mention here
The incident with Valya Harkonnen using the voice is from one called «Mentats of Dune.» All three books weave together the development of the Sisterhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Suk Doctors. I’ve read and watched a lot of fantasy/sdi-fi in my life, and I think I can instantly recognize a winner, whether it’s The Fifth Element, Lord of the Rings, The Edge of Tomorrow, The Matrix, GOT, or 12 Monkeys. .

So what’s the «formula»? It just grabs you and you have to see more! The plot and characters draw you in, there are some delightful surprises, it feels real…
A classy production all around
I agree that some of the younger actors aren’t that great… and that a swordMASTER is unlikely to be that ridiculously young… but overall the series so far is intriguing, watchable and has a lot of excitement.
The "Prophecy" element is delightful and I can’t wait to see what happens next
